Improved Bike Lanes Proposed In Los Gatos Up For VTA Board Vote

LOS GATOS, CA — A proposal to build Class II bicycle lanes in Los Gatos on Shannon Road, a popular route to schools, is expected to be voted on by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Board of Directors on Thursday.

The board is expected to vote on $2.7 million in funding for nine infrastructure projects aimed at reducing emissions.

The projects include improvements to bikeways and traffic signals, along with additional funding for VTA’s Rapid 500 and Valley Medical Center Shuttle service.

San Jose would see improved signal timing on Coleman Avenue, Cottle Road and Senter Road, upgraded bicycle lanes on San Fernando Street near San Jose State University and for seven additional lanes in the city and bike racks and lockers installed at various locations.

Santa Clara would upgrade a bicycle facility on Mission College Boulevard to a protected bikeway, and Sunnyvale would install a traffic responsive signal system in the area of Moffett Park.
