Juvenile Encased In Mud Rescued By Crews Near Lexington Reservoir

The 12-year-old boy had to be extricated from thick mud up to his knee near the southwest side of Lexington Reservoir.

LOS GATOS, CA -- Santa Clara County rescue crews were dispatched to a scene this past weekend in which a juvenile was so encased in mud at a reservoir he had to be pulled out.

Emergency personnel arrived for the 6:12 p.m. Saturday call to find a 12-year-old male about 300 yards from the Old Santa Cruz Highway at Wright Drive near the southwest side Lexington Reservoir with one leg completely stuck up to his knee.

Fire crews were able to dig around the limb to relieve the suction of the mud and extricate
the youth in about 45 minutes. They assisted him back to the roadway, where he was transferred to Santa Clara County Emergency Management Services before being transported to an area
hospital as a precaution.

In response to protecting citizens against dangerous conditions posed by waterways impacted by severe weather like California experienced this past weekend, the county fire agency would like to remind residents to be mindful of where they're walking and to avoid crossing areas of
mud that can become an entrapment hazard.
