Law Enforcement to Release Cause of Fatal Limo Fire

Local law enforcement officials on Monday will provide an update to the investigation of a limo fire on the San Mateo Bridge in May that killed five women, including a new bride.

Few details have emerged to explain what caused a 1999 Lincoln Town Car to go up in flames on May 4 or why half the occupants, women celebrating the new marriage of 31-year-old Neriza Fojas, could not get out.

Fojas and four friends died in the limo fire. Four other women, three from the East Bay and one from San Jose, survived with injuries. The driver was unharmed.

The California Highway Patrol, Foster City Fire Department, San Mateo County Coroner’s Office, and the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office coordinated efforts to investigate this incident and make a determination as to what caused the fire and whether there was a violation of law. 

The results of that investigation will be released Monday.

Authorities also plan to release audio of the 911 calls to the CHP.
