Montana Shrader: Tacti Design is a merge between technology and design using tactile materials. Each design is approached uniquely and inspired by patterns in nature, architecture, and culture. Fabrication is made possible by modern technology, using computer aided drafting techniques to formulate designs and a Epilog laser cutter that "burns" through the material. The result is a soft, touchable material with a modern twist and computer precision.
Patch: How long have you been in business and what made you want to create it?

Shrader: I have been in business for about six months. I always enjoyed the feel of materials, running my hands along surfaces. Felt is the oldest textile known to man and I was intrigued of combining modern technology and craft with the an old world material.
Patch: Why did you decide to participate in SJ MADE?
Shrader: I fully support all local businesses and sense a desire of people returning to local, homemade products and designers. I think SJMADE has cultivated that aspect and is an example of truly supporting the local grass roots endeavors and businesses—and I want to be a part of it!
Patch: What are some of the challenges of being a small business owner?
Shrader: Marketing. Getting yourself seen and heard as small business owner means you have to put in twice the amount of sweat, but everything that is worthwhile requires work.
Patch: Why is it important for the greater community to support small businesses, such as yourself, at events like SJ MADE?
Shrader: There's a need to educate people about local businesses, artists, and designers. The local community offers a connection on a personal level. Big box stores can almost never offer that one-on-one relationship but they have a bulk of the market. Local businesses and those who support them help keep our community strong, thriving, and growing together.
