Los Gatos Halloween Spooky Story Contest Now Under Way
Deadline to submit your best scary tale is Oct. 31.
The 27th annual Halloween Spooky Story Contest is underway in Los Gatos for children in grades second through sixth, courtesy of The Wooden Horse toy store, 796 Blossom Hill Rd.
The contest is open to all Bay Area children and last year it received more than 1,000 stories, according to organizers.
Participants are encouraged to submit their most "original, mysterious and creative story ever" before the closing deadline, Thursday, Oct. 31, Halloween 2013.
The judges, store employees, look for stories that are imaginative and they love illustrations, too, according to the contest entry form, which has been printed in Bay Area Parent magazine and is also attached to this post. Individual entry form can be downloaded here.
Stories and their optional illustrations can be typed or hand-written on any piece of paper.
- First-place stories win a $25 gift certificate
- Second-place stories win a $15 gift certificate
- Third-place stories win a $10 gift certificate
- All others receive a $3 "boo coupon" for use at The Wooden Horse
Entrants MUST include with their stories the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Phone
- School
- Teacher
- Grade
- Title of story
When the story is ready, entrants can drop it off, or mail it to The Wooden Horse, attn: Spooky Story Contest, 796 Blossom Hill Rd., Los Gatos, CA 95032. They can also fax it to 408-356-6220, or email it to the store's book buyer, rochelle@woodenhorsetoys.com.
All stories submitted will be returned to entrants in early December to the children's schools, or they can be picked up at the store, organizers said.
