Los Gatos Merchants Help Lost Dog Return to Owner

Out of the Envelope employee helps reunite lost canine with owner on North Santa Cruz Avenue.

The 8-by-10-inch signs are still posted along North Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Los Gatos, but the adorable white Yorkie, with its tongue sticking out, reported lost last week has been returned to its rightful owner.

The happy ending to this story is possible thanks to an employee of Out of the Envelope, 326 No. Santa Cruz Ave., after Chicago Steak and Fish management brought the little canine over to inquire if it belonged to one of their customers on July 9.

"The owner came and got it," said a woman who answered the phone at Out of the Envelope on Monday, declining to be identified.

The woman explained an Out of the Envelope employee, who loves animals, took the dog under her care soon after finding it. She made the small signs that she posted along the busy downtown strip.

The hero in this story also works at the Beaux Cheveux hair salon, 332 No. Santa Cruz Ave.

She even took the dog to the veterinarian to see if it was chipped and it was, but it had not been registered. "She thought to keep it here until the owner responded to all the signs up," the woman said.

That same day the dog's owner came into the store, since she's one of its customers, and was grateful and relieved to be reunited with her beloved companion, the woman said.

The flier had the phone numbers for Out of the Envelope and the employee who helped reunite the dog with its owner.

The woman said the dog's owner also happens to be a merchant on North Santa Cruz Avenue, but she declined to identify her. "We were on it," the woman said about helping the lost dog. "The owner just moved into a new store a couple of doors down from us."
