A dedicated group of Los Gatos residents is working behind the scenes to ensure the success of the upcoming 9th Annual Foster5K Race, which supports foster youth throughout Santa Clara County.

Rebecca Sayed, Ayman Sayed, Vik Ghai, Roma Ghai, Vardaan Ghai and Orion Ghai are among the local volunteers investing their time and energy into the event scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at Martial Cottle Park in San Jose.

"This event brings the community together in a meaningful way to bring awareness to our most vulnerable youth in Santa Clara County," says Ehi Oiyemhonlan, Board of Directors member at Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and co-chair of this year's event.

The Foster5K has become a cornerstone event in Silicon Valley, offering both a chip-timed 5K race and a Kids Dash for children, making it accessible for all ages and abilities. Last year's event drew 400 participants, and organizers hope to exceed that number this year with both in-person and virtual participation options.

Founded by Debbie Crouse before the pandemic, the Foster5K has grown into a family-friendly community tradition. Participants can enjoy a post-race party featuring a DJ, prizes, and various activities.

All proceeds from the event directly benefit Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and its Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program, which provides crucial support and advocacy for foster children in Santa Clara County.

The race begins at 9:00 AM on April 27, with the Kids Dash starting at 10:00 AM. Community members interested in participating can register at foster5k.org, while those looking to volunteer can email info@foster5k.org.

For Los Gatos residents interested in supporting this local-led initiative, registration is now open, with the race just four weeks away.
