Los Gatos Treasures 4 Teens Crowdfunding to Help Underprivileged Youth

Fundraising must be completed by end of November to give every needy youth iPod shuffles and books.

The Los Gatos-based nonprofit organization Treasures 4 Teens has announced that it's crowdfunding through Piggybackr this year through Dec. 15 to raise money needed to buy presents for underprivileged youth.

Launched in 2010 by Los Gatos siblings Michael and Giverny Daboll, the pair is working with student volunteers from Raymond J. Fisher Middle School's Builders Club to give a new iPod shuffle and a book to every local teen in need, said program spokeswoman Karen Daboll.

The program must raise the majority of funds before the end of November to order the iPod shuffles and books needed.

Teens ages 11-18 years old qualify for the program by registering with the Campbell Community Toy Program or with West Valley Community Services.

T4T expects to serve as many as 450 teens again this year and hopes even more local community members will support its efforts, Karen Daboll said.

“Ever since we started Treasures 4 Teens, our goal has been to give the same kind of gifts that we would like to receive," said Michael Daboll, 16.

The Dabolls got motivated to deliver on their iPod shuffle goal this year after receiving a $5,000 grant from the Fredricksen Green Foundation Fund.

The pair needs to raise more than $20,000 to succeed, so support from local businesses and community members is even more critical this year, Karen Daboll said.

Some of the local businesses who have supported T4T include:

  • Sereno Group
  • Whole Foods Market Los Gatos
  • Keller Williams Realty Los Gatos
  • Camp BizSmart

Giverny, 18, is a freshman at Tufts University in Boston.

Details can be found on the T4T website, or on the fundraiser Piggybackr page.

Donations are processed through the program’s fiscal sponsor, Catalyst for Youth, Inc., a public charity and educational non-profit serving teens and young adults, and are tax deductible.

T4T volunteers will again be at the Los Gatos Farmers' Market on Dec. 1, 8 and 15, gathering cash donations for the program to be used to fund the purchase of the Shuffles and iTunes gift cards.
