Police said the victim was dropped off at an emergency room after he was stabbed Tuesday afternoon.

SAN JOSE, CA — Detectives in San Jose are investigating the city's fifth homicide of the year after a man was dropped off at an emergency room with fatal stab wounds, according to police.

Officers arrived at the hospital around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and learned the man had succumbed to his injuries while receiving emergency medical care, investigators said Wednesday. Police learned the stabbing happened earlier in the area of Spring and Taylor streets, where investigators soon discovered the crime scene.

Detectives said a preliminary investigation suggested the victim was in a physical altercation before he was stabbed, but the motive and circumstances remained unknown.
