Mosquito Spraying Planned Next Week In 3 San Jose ZIP Codes
Targeted mosquito treatments are planned next week after the latest detection of mosquitoes with West Nile in San Jose.
SAN JOSE, CA — The Vector Control District recently discovered mosquitoes with West Nile virus in parts of San Jose and plans to treat the area Monday evening with truck-mounted spraying equipment. The work is weather permitting and will take place within the 95110, 95112, and 95125 ZIP codes, including around Washington Elementary School and CEFCU Stadium.
"It is critical that the district conduct adult-mosquito-control treatments as quickly as possible upon finding a positive mosquito," officials wrote Tuesday. "Any delay in the application would present an imminent threat to public health and safety, exposing the public to potential vector-borne injury, or even death."
County officials note it is normal to see an increase in West Nile activity during the summer and early fall because that is the timeframe when mosquitoes thrive most. The Vector Control District has regularly conducted treatments to reduce mosquito populations in the area since 2003.

To minimize disruptions, the work is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Sept. 18 and conclude within a few hours.
"There is no need to relocate during the adult-mosquito-control treatment," officials said. "Adult-mosquito-control treatments pose minimal risk to people, pets, and animals and the environment when applied by a licensed vector control professional following label instructions."
