New Ballet Moves To Iconic Corinthian Ballroom In San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA — New Ballet is starting the 20s in a new location - a beautiful facility with five spacious studios in the historic Corinthian Ballroom building at 196 North 3rd Street, a glorious marble columned building that is an icon of downtown San Jose. The organization, led by local ballerina, choreographer and dance educator Dalia Rawson, was founded on February 29, 2016 (a Leap Year) and invites the public to celebrate with them at a Grand Re-Opening in their new location on February 29, (Leap Year) 2020.

The new building features two student lounges, dressing rooms, and five newly constructed dance studios. The largest studio is the Mohr Studio. It is the most spacious studio in the local area, named after local legend Gloria Vauges Mohr who danced with New York City Ballet under George Balanchine and taught locally, inspiring San Jose dancers for decades. The Striebeck and Heineke Studios are named in honor of generous supporters of the ballet whose kindness has helped ensure that professional caliber classical ballet continues to thrive in downtown San Jose.

The Grand Re-Opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony presided over by District 3 Councilmember Raul Peralez at 12 noon, with a brief performance preview in the Mohr Studio to follow, featuring the New Ballet Studio Company and other local dance groups including Calpulli Tonalehqueh (an Aztec Dance Group), Los Lupeños Juvenil, the San Jose State University Dance Department and others. Treats, face painting, photos with costumed characters, and special enrollment discounts will follow, along with the chance to take a look at New Ballet's beautiful new home.
