Newborn Baby Dies After Pregnant Mom Killed In Crash: San Jose Police

The child's 21-year-old mother was described as a beloved preschool teacher.

SAN JOSE, CA — A newborn baby has died after an emergency delivery prompted by a car crash that killed a pregnant woman in San Jose, according to police.

April Marie Zoglauer, 21, died in connection with the collision Tuesday, which resulted in an emergency surgery and the delivery of her child, who was in critical condition and later also died of injuries, police learned Wednesday.

Zoglauer was described as a beloved preschool teacher in a GoFundMe started to cover her funeral expenses and medical bills.

The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the area of Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Boulevard, where Zoglauer's eastbound 2008 Nissan was struck by a southbound 2013 Hyundai that was determined to be stolen, according to police. Two males fled the Hyundai on foot after the collision, police said.
