CAPITOLA, CA — The owner of a popular Bay Area pizza chain is going to Washington, and the company said it's "stoked."
Pizza My Heart owner Chuck Hammers will attend President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address Tuesday as a guest of Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Santa Cruz).
The pizza chain includes a Capitola location that was damaged during a series of powerful winter storms last month.

Pizza My Heart said the company’s “Big Cheese” will be “representing the many businesses along the central coast that suffered storm damage.”
“We're stoked to be the guest of US Representative Jimmy Panetta at the State of the Union address,” the restaurant tweeted.

The restaurateur’s SOTU trip was first reported by The Santa Cruz Sentinel.
Hammers just met Biden less than a month ago when the President visited the storm-battered resort town, according to the report.
“I’m nervous and I’m excited,” Hammers told the news outlet.
“It’s just an amazing honor to be selected to represent the victims of the storm damage in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.”
Hammers owns several other Capitola businesses, which combined with the Pizza My Heart locations, suffered $500,000 in storm-related damage, according to the report.
