San Jose Fentanyl Dealer Convicted After Students Overdose: DA
Prosecutors said overdoses among students at Los Gatos High School were traced to a San Jose drug dealer.
SAN JOSE, CA — A drug dealer in San Jose has been convicted and is facing 12 years in prison after fentanyl-laced pills that led to overdoses of students at Los Gatos High School were traced to him, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.
The investigation began after Santa Clara police responded to an overdose of a 15-year-old girl in the bathroom during a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Santa Clara. Prosecutors said that investigators traced the counterfeit Percocet pill laced with fentanyl to Simon Armendariz, 23.
Last week, Armendariz pleaded guilty to all charges, including four felony counts of selling drugs to minors and misdemeanor charges for possession of ammunition and fentanyl, as well as two prior strike offenses. He will be formally sentenced on Dec. 6 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

Armendariz sold $10 pills to students at Los Gatos High or in the nearby parking lot of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Students who bought pills from Armendariz, who sometimes went by nicknames including "Risky" or "Madman," often carried the overdose prevention medication Narcan in case they overdosed, prosecutors said.
