Santa Clara County Transfers Some Vaccine Appointments To Kaiser

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Kaiser patients who were supposed to receive COVID-19 vaccinations through the Santa Clara County health system had their appointments transferred back to Kaiser on Wednesday.

The change affects thousands of patients with vaccination appointments scheduled between March 11 and March 21. County officials said in a news release that the decision was made because Kaiser was given assurances of vaccine supply by the state, while the county “has received no such commitment for the uninsured and vulnerable populations we serve.”

The county clarified that those affected are Kaiser patients under 75 who had signed up through the county to receive a vaccination.

Santa Clara County’s “no wrong door” policy allows for all residents to sign up for COVID-19 vaccinations through the county’s health system, even if they have a primary health care provider.

The county has vaccinated the majority of residents who have signed up so far, with over 233,000 first doses and 95,000 second doses administered.

But despite ramping up capacity, county officials have repeatedly lamented the insufficient and unpredictable vaccine supply from the state.
