The county will host a "one-stop shop" for veterans next month, including free haircuts, food, job assistance and medical screenings.

SAN JOSE, CA — Santa Clara County's Office of Veterans Services will host its first "Stand Down" event next month, offering all veterans access to free services, supplies and medical care over two days at the fairgrounds.
The county will join community organizations and other veteran agencies to put on a "one-stop shop," including free haircuts, food, employment assistance, medical and dental screenings, mental health resources, legal aid, and other vital services.
The state will provide Veterans Affairs representatives to help attendees resolve any claims they have on-site.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley will provide free food at the event, and veterans can grab free rides on buses and trains from anywhere in the county via the Valley Transportation Authority.
"Our veterans sacrificed all for our country, and for all of us," said Steve Fondacaro, the interim Veterans Services director. "It's now our job to help them integrate back into society once they've stood down from service."
