SJ Pedestrian Killed In Sunday Hit-And-Run DUI: Police

Police allege a woman driving with two young passengers was under the influence when she hit and killed a man Sunday morning.

SAN JOSE, CA — A woman driving under the influence with two young passengers in the car is accused of hitting and killing a man in a marked crosswalk early Sunday in San Jose and fleeing the scene, according to police.

Investigators said a hit-and-run call came in shortly after 12:30 a.m. near Capitol Expressway and Bluefield Drive. According to police, officers learned a woman driving a white Range Rover and carrying two juvenile passengers was headed eastbound on Capitol Expressway when she hit a pedestrian crossing southbound.

Medics rushed the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the woman fled the scene of the crash and was later found at her home and arrested. She was booked into the Main Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and child endangerment.

The crash was San Jose's 46th traffic death of the year and 25th pedestrian death, police said. The victim's identity will be released by the coroner's office pending notification of next of kin.
