South Bay Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

An infant child was present at the time of the Nov. 3 shooting that left a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.

GILROY, CA – A South Bay man was arrested Monday in connection with a Nov. 3 Gilroy shooting that left a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Pedro Martinez-Guerrero, 40 of Gilroy, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting an inhabited dwelling, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death to a child, and additional firearms related charges, Gilroy police said.

The case was classified as a domestic violence incident after officers determined the suspect and victim knew each other, police said.

The victim in the shooting survived but suffered serious injuries, police said.

Undercover officers arrested Martinez-Guerrero at around 11:45 a.m. Monday in Salinas.

The Salinas and Petaluma police departments and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office assisted local authorities in the investigation.
