South Bay Construction Worker Plunges Into 20-Foot Manhole

Firefighters rescued the worker Thursday afternoon, Cal Fire said.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters from Cal Fire rescued a road construction worker in a Morgan Hill neighborhood late Thursday afternoon after the man fell down an open manhole.

A Cal Fire spokesperson said the incident, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m., was in the area of Jackson Oaks Drive and Ridgeview Court in the eastern part of the city just south of Anderson Lake.

About two hours after the ordeal began, the worker was rescued by firefighters at about 4:30 p.m.

The worker, who fell about 20 feet, suffered a broken leg, KTVU reports.

"Firefighters have rescued the patient from a 20 foot fall down a manhole. He will be assessed and treated by paramedics at scene and transported to the hospital," Cal Fire tweeted at around 5 p.m. Thursday.
