South Bay Man Killed In Fiery San Benito Co. Crash: CHP

The crash occurred early Sunday morning in San Benito County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 27-year-old Gilroy man was driving west on state Highway 156 when his vehicle went off the road east of Buena Vista Road, overturned and caught fire, the CHP said. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died of his injuries.

SAN BENITO COUNTY, CA — A South Bay man was killed early Sunday morning in a San Benito County crash, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 27-year-old Gilroy man was driving west on state Highway 156 when his vehicle went off the road east of Buena Vista Road, overturned and caught fire, the CHP said.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died of his injuries.

The CHP has not yet determined whether impairment was a factor and the investigation is ongoing.

The fatal crash was among on the Central Coast highway on Sunday.

Three people were killed shortly after 8 p.m. when a Tesla traveling east on Highway 156 crossed the center divider into the path of a tractor-trailer rig and collided head-on.

The collision killed three people in the Tesla, including the 55-year-old man driving the vehicle and two female occupants. A fourth occupant, a male, survived the crash.

The driver of the truck had minor injuries.

The CHP has not yet determined whether impairment was a factor and the investigation is ongoing.
