SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Office of Education and its Superintendent of Schools, Jon R. Gundry, have agreed to part ways in a deal announced Wednesday at a school board meeting. No specific reason for the parting of ways was given, however, the education office announced the search for his replacement would begin immediately.
"The parties decided that it was in the best interest of students, staff and the community to begin transitioning leadership in a manner that ensures a continued focus on student achievement," education officials said in a statement.

"The board and Mr. Gundry have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests as well as in the best interests of the county office of education," Board President Michael Chang said in a statement.
The Office of Education said that board members thanked Gundry for his leadership during his three years of service, which started in July 2014 after he arrived from the Pasadena Unified School District where he also
served as superintendent.

"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the board, my staff and the community for their support of the county's programs and services during my tenure," Gundry said in a statement. "I am confident that
the county office will continue to set a high standard for educational leadership in the Bay Area."
Among the achievements Gundry championed was the launch of the Opportunity Youth Academy, which secured significant grant funding for data usage and supported expansion for technology infrastructure, teacher training/certification and academic/school climate support, according to education officials.
