2 People, Dog Rescued from Boat Fire Off Malibu Coast

The vessel, a 38-foot power boat, was on fire about 6 nautical miles off Point Dume.

MALIBU, CA -- Two people and a dog were rescued from a boat fire off the coast of Malibu on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The fire was reported at around 7:20 a.m. about 6 nautical miles off Point Dume, authorities said.

Two people and a dog were on board and they jumped into the water and was rescued by a Good Samaritan, USCG Petty Officer 1st Class Sondra Kneen said.

A Coast Guard boat arrived shortly after and the pair and the dog were taken on board with no injuries, she said.

The Ventura County Fire Department boat was the first on the scene and was working on extinguishing the flames, VCFD Capt. Mike Lindbery said.

The boat was described as a 38-foot power boat, according to the Coast Guard.

The cause of the fire was unknown at this time.
