Authorities Search for Person in Malibu Waters

Search operations have been called off, with nothing found, after a person reported seeing a paraglider or hang glider crash into Santa Monica Bay off Malibu Sunday morning.

Los Angeles County lifeguards and sheriff's deputies searched the waters off La Costa and Las Flores beaches on Malibu's east end after getting a report at 10:42 a.m. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter scanned the area, as did a Baywatch boat. An ambulance and fire truck appeared on Malibu Road.

Some inflated party balloons were spotted in the water. No debris or persons were found by 12 p.m. and the search was called off. Only one person had called about the sighting, a deputy said.
