Cash Mob Spreads to Malibu

Preserve Malibu hopes to use the popular event to support Malibu businesses.

A local group plans to give a Malibu business an infusion of cash this weekend.

Preserve Malibu will surprise a local business with a cash mob from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The group will meet on the corner of Kanan Dune Road and Pacific Coast Highway.

Cash mobs, which have been popping up across the nation, are when a group of people assemble at a local business and buy items.

“Or goal has been and is to support our small businesses and cash mobs are a great way to do that," Jae Flora-Katz said. "Combine that with the city also working to support these independent retail and restaurants and it's a winning combination."

Julie Eamer, a member of Preserve Malibu, said there could be more cash mobs depending on the success of the first one.
