City: Last Chance to Apply to Malibu Cultural Arts Commission

Following an interview process, the applications will be presented to the City Council for consideration at a regular City Council meeting.

The City of Malibu is accepting applications for five spots on its new Cultural Arts Commission through late Friday afternoon.

Malibu Mayor Laura Zahn Rosenthal encouraged more Malibu residents to apply. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

"Talk to your friends. We want to get new people involved with our city with this commiison," Rosenthal said at Monday's City Council meeting.

Commissioners will make recommendations to the Malibu City Council on cultural arts policy, the use of city parks for arts-related events, purchases of art by the city, outreach to Malibu artists and other tasks, according to Joyce Parker-Bozylinski, the city's planning director.

Applicants must be a resident of Malibu within the 90265 zip code. The council has the ability to appoint one ex-officio member who lives outside the city limits, but they will not have a vote, according to Parker-Bozylinski.

Application forms are on the City's website at www.malibucity.org (on the City Clerk page) or by emailing Lisa Pope, City Clerk, at lpope@malibucity.org. Following an interview process, the applications will be presented to the City Council for consideration at a regular City Council meeting.
