Coast Guard: Don't Mix Drinking, Boating

Alcohol use continues to be a leading cause in recreational boating related accidents, injuries and deaths.

The United States Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies will be cracking down this weekend on boaters who drink alcohol on the water.

Boats will be boarded in the waters between Morro Bay and Dana Point from June 28-30 as part of Operation Dry Water, according to the Coast Guard. The operation will focus on safety inspections and checking for boaters under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"Boating under the influence is just as dangerous as being in a car while intoxicated," according to Adam Eggers, a Coast Guard spokesman.
