Corral Canyon Residents Prepare for Worst With Red Flag Warning

With a Red Flag Warning in effect for Malibu, residents of Corral Canyon have taken measures to protect their neighborhood from a repeat of the 2007 fire that destroyed 53 homes. 

The Santa Ana winds are expected to bring gusts up to 70 mph to the canyons and mountains through Sunday. 

As a safety measure, the Los Angeles County Fire Department has beefed up their staff with additional strike teams.

Corral Canyon's LACoFD Engine 271 will be actively patrolling Corral Canyon over the next few days, according to Paul J. Morra, President of the Corral Canyon Fire Safety Alliance.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy will be posted at the "virtual gate" along Corral Canyon Road each night during the Red Flag Warning to keep people out of the State Park and cave area in the canyon, Morra said.  

"The purpose of this law, adopted by the Board of Supervisors is to prevent another 2007 Corral Fire from happening again," Morra said.

Residents are asked to leave enough room for emergency vehicles when they park. Anyone who sees anything suspicious or fire related is asked to call 911.

In the event of an evacuation, residents will assemble at Malibu Bluffs Park.
