SCE hopes to replace 5 million electric meters for residential and commercial customers, who will receive advance notice in the mail, by the end of this year throughout Southern California.
Residential customers can opt out of the program by calling (800) 810-2369. Customers who choose to go without the digital device will have to pay a $75 one-time fee, plus an extra $10 per month to cover meter reading and other extra expenses.
