MALIBU, CA — The state Route 1, Pacific Coast Highway, will be reduced to one lane between Deer Creek Road and Sycamore Canyon Road on Wednesday and Thursday for construction.

Traffic will be alternated on the one open lane from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cyclists are advised avoid the area because the bike lanes will be blocked, according to the city of Malibu.

The closures is part of a California Department of Transportation project to construct a retaining wall to separate the roadway from eroded slope leading to the ocean, according to Caltrans. The $51 million project is expected to be complete by spring 2023, according to the city of Malibu.
