FBI Joins Probe Into Hoax Bomb Threat

Students were evacuated following a fake bomb threat at Malibu High School and two other schools earlier this month.

Detectives from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station are working closely with the FBI in the investigation of a fake bomb threat at Malibu High School two weeks ago.

Authorities suspected early on that a bomb threat against was a hoax, but evacuated students at the high school and two other schools on May 3.

Calling in a hoax bomb threat is a felony, according to detectives. No other details were released because of the ongoing investigation.

Malibu High School Principal Mark Kelly said previously that there were three, 30-minute conversations with the caller. 

Sandra Lyon, superintendent for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, said previously that detectives were able to speak to the caller for a period of time.

"We had early indications from the sheriff that they did believe it was a hoax … We wanted to make sure students were safe," Lyon said.
