Groundbreaking Takes Place for Church Rebuild

The Malibu Presbyterian Church was destroyed in the 2007 Canyon Fire.

The process began Sunday to build a new facility for the  on Malibu Canyon Road. About 450 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony.

The church staff and congregants have been worshipping in a makeshift structure on the property since 2007, shortly after the original facility was destroyed in .

"We're just excited to get our church back up and being a positive light in our community," said Pastor Greg Hughes, according to a story on ABC 7's website.

The project is expected to cost $10 million. The church says it has enough money to pay for the first phase, but it will need to raise additional dollars to fund the second phase, according to ABC 7.
