LETTER: The Musical Side of Malibu High
I've taken the performance-art route at MHS; I've been in the plays and musicals, the choir and orchestra, the concerts, Coffee Houses, and Masques, and while it's been a lot of fun, it's also proven to be somewhat of a balancing act.

If there’s one thing I can say about Malibu High School, it’s that it is filled with some of the most multi-talented people you’ll ever meet; everyone has multiple passions and interests, some of which they might not even advertise. (I can’t tell you how many amazing closet-artists and musicians there are at this school.) For example, you have one student who is a musician, a star athlete, a math and science wiz, and a budding book critic – and all of these titles come with incredibly heavy loads: rehearsals, practices, AP Tests, work – the whole nine yards. It really is pretty amazing what people are capable of juggling around here.
I’ve taken the performance-art route at MHS; I’ve been in the plays and musicals, the choir and orchestra, the concerts, Coffee Houses, and Masques, and while it’s been a lot of fun, it’s also proven to be somewhat of a balancing act. I’m sure that I speak for quite a few people when I say that getting through high school would not have been possible without the incredible support of our teachers. One of my favorite parts of doing the plays and musicals is coming out of the green room at the end of a performance and seeing all of the family, friends, and teachers who are there to show you their support.
Our teachers care. They come to the shows, the games, and the concerts. They congratulate you, they make sure that you’re keeping up with all of your work, and if you’re having a hard time, they take an extra moment to see if they can help. Teachers at MHS want their students to be passionate, intellectually curious, educated individuals. Many have gone out of their way to support me these last years, and have given me the extra guidance and encouragement that I needed to continue pursuing both my education and my passions. These men and women teach with enthusiasm and benevolence, and I am so grateful to have been one of their students.
