LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Why is PCH Ignored?

Shepard Vineburg writes about his experience sitting in traffic on Pacific Coast Highway on Tuesday night.

I just got home tonight in Malibu at 9:15 p.m. after driving home from L.A. I got to the McClure Tunnel in Santa Monica around 7 p.m.

There was no traffic alert about any trouble on PCH on AM radio #1070 so I endured what I thought was just some heavy traffic. By the time I got to Topanga Canyon Blvd. an hour later, PCH into Malibu was completely closed and all northbound traffic was detoured onto Topanga.

We had to drive completely up and over the canyon and still no word on AM#1070 about any kind of trouble in Malibu! I had to drive all the way over Topanga to the #101 and head west to come back to Malibu via Malibu Canyon.

Finally at 8:39 p.m. I heard the first report of trouble on PCH. I didn't get home until 9:15 p.m., and am very frustrated. There must be some way that #1070AM can get more accurate traffic news, especially regarding Malibu.

One has to feel they often ignore PCH as the major artery that it is. Anybody have any suggestions?  "I'm all ears....".
