Lyon Submits Council Candidate Nomination Papers

The third-generation Malibu resident is the first candidate to submit the papers.

The Malibu  election could soon have its first official candidate. Third-generation Malibu resident Andy Lyon, 49, submitted his nomination papers at  on Friday.

The papers contain at least 20 signatures, which is required by city law. The  next week will verify with the Los Angeles County Registrar that at least 20 of the signatures are from registered Malibu voters.

Lyon is a realtor and surfer. His face is also nationally recognizable for a Subaru commercial that has aired numerous times in which a father speaks to a daughter before her first drive. The daughter is shown as a little girl and then as an older girl. The two actresses in the commercial are Lyon's real-life daughters Georgie, 6, and Lanna, 18.
