Southern California Edison announced a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff this week, affecting some areas of Malibu.
MALIBU, CA — A potential Public Safety Power Shutoff may affect the City of Malibu's Galahad Circuit Monday and Wednesday, SCE announced. A previous notice of a possible power shutoff in Maguire Circuit was removed, the City of Malibu said.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, these are the locations facing a risk of a power shutoff:
- Galahad Circuit (approximately the western edge of Point Dume to Point Mugu and 2-4 miles inland) — 6 a.m. to midnight Wednesday, October 30
- Maguire Circuit (approximately Mulholland Highway to Solstice Canyon and about 3 miles inland) — Previous notifications of possible power shutoff have been removed.
- Merlin (approximately Latigo Canyon Road to Malibu Lagoon, and about 2-4 miles inland) — midnight to 3 a.m. Thursday, October 31
"Individuals who are medically dependent on electricity service should consider proactively staying in another area until conditions change," the City of Malibu said. "Residents are encouraged to check on family members and neighbors who may need assistance."

If a power shutoff is implemented and hazardous conditions have passed, it could take one to three days to restore service, because Southern California Edison must first inspect all power lines in the affected circuit area to ensure they are safe to re-energize, the City said.
The City advised residents to monitor local news, including KNX AM-1070 and KBUU 99.1-FM on the radio.
