Planning Commissioner Asks For Meetings to be Moved to Mondays

Commissioner John Mazza made the request as the Malibu City Council is expected to make new appointments on the commission at its meeting on Monday.

New appointees on the Malibu Planning Commission will have a chance to weigh in on whether to hold its meetings on a different night going forward.

The commission normally meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.

Commissioner John Mazza requested the change meetings be changed to Monday so that the local newspapers, the Malibu Times and the Surfside News, are able to attend without running into their deadlines.

“Hopefully we can line up with the council meetings and have them on Monday nights,” Mazza said, adding that he would like the new commissioners to weigh in on the issue.

The item will most likely appear on the agenda for the June 5 meeting, according to Jessica Blair, an administrative analyst in the city’s Planning Department.

That’s the same night that any new commissioners appointed by the Malibu City Council will be sworn in.

The council is expected to make the appointments on Monday, May 14 during its regular meeting at City Hall.
