Malibu Plans Community Workshop To Air Details Of SMMUSD Separation
The road to separate Malibu and Santa Monica school districts is long, winding and complex. Officials want to help explain it all.

MALIBU, CA — After Malibu and Santa Monica reached a major milestone in the long, winding and complex path of creating separate school districts, officials are inviting the community to a workshop meant to help residents understand the implications of the plan.
The city of Malibu and the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District recently announced they have reached a tentative pact on a revenue-sharing agreement that will dictate some of the financial terms of the creation of separate Malibu and Santa Monica school districts.
A work session is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at City Hall, where officials will discuss insights into the revenue-sharing agreement and "key guiding principles will be emphasized, including equity, fairness, and local control in education. By upholding these principles, the City remains committed to ensuring that decisions regarding educational policies are made with the best interests of the community in mind," reads a city release.
