Malibu Presents Event To Reflect On Woolsey Fire

The community is invited to attend an evening of poetry, music and films reflecting on the experience of and recovery from the Woolsey Fire.

MALIBU, CA — Community members are invited to attend an evening of poetry, music and films reflecting on the experience of and recovery from the Woolsey Fire, in conjunction with the "Radical Beauty, Malibu Rising" art exhibition on Friday, June 21 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall.

"I invite you to come together to enjoy these wonderful artistic expressions that capture Malibu’s character as a community of strong, compassionate people who are determined to overcome any challenges," said Mayor Jefferson Wagner.

The City of Malibu Cultural Arts Commission and Poet Laureate Committee will host the event, featuring poetry readings and artists featured in the book "Radical Beauty, Malibu After the Fire," by former Malibu Poet Laureate Ricardo Means Ybarra, City of Malibu the press release said. After the poetry reading, the City will screen several Woolsey Fire-related films made by community members in the Malibu Civic Theater.

"Radical Beauty, Malibu Rising" is a community-wide collaboration featuring Woolsey Fire-related artwork.

"Reflecting on a moment of healing and recovery, the community has come together to show how artists have interpreted the devastation that struck the Malibu community while uncovering the beauty in togetherness, nature and resiliency," the City said.

The exhibition will feature artwork such as photography, painting, drawing, collage, free standing art, videos and written work. The exhibition is located in Malibu City Hall and will be on display through August 2019. The exhibition can be viewed during open hours Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. City Hall is located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Rd., Malibu CA 90265.
