MALIBU, CA — Several major road closures in Malibu have been lifted after a storm brought record rainfall to the region.

The storm moved through the Southland early Thursday amid evacuation warnings and fears of debris flows, bringing a heavy dose of rain over a short period of time.

Light to moderate rain was predicted for Friday over most areas during the day, with 0.10 to 0.50 inches and rates under 0.33 inches per hour. Forecasters said the risk of significant flooding or debris flows was small.

Here's the current status of roads around Malibu as of Friday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department:

  • Las Flores Canyon Road is open to emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles, residents and pass holders.
  • Tuna Canyon Road remains open only to emergency vehicles at the southbound 3400 block.
  • Pacific Coast Highway is back to a "soft closure," open only to emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles, residents and pass holders.
  • Malibu Canyon Road is fully open.

Evacuation warnings for the Palisades and Franklin fire burn areas were lifted Thursday night, according to the city of Malibu.

Webster Elementary School, Malibu Elementary School, Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School were closed Thursday due to road closures and safety concerns. The schools were open on Friday.
