Malibu Secures $47,000 In Federal Wildfire Recovery Funds
Malibu was among seven areas in California to receive federal funding for wildfire rebuild efforts.
MALIBU, CA — Malibu secured over $47,000 in federal funding to help rebuild from the 2018 Woolsey Fire, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Saturday.
Malibu was among seven California towns, cities and counties to receive wildfire recovery funding. Los Angeles County received $3.78 million in wildfire recovery funds on top of the money allocated to Malibu.
The city will use the funds toward a $2 million project to replace guardrails on Malibu roads damaged in the fire, according to Malibu Media Information Officer Matt Myerhoff. Funding from the California Office of Emergency Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency and city of Malibu have contributed to the guardrail project as well.

The funds will help the state rebuild from 2018 fires including the Camp Fire, Carr Fire and Mendocino Complex Fire in northern California, according to Newsom's office. Combined with the Woolsey Fire, 1.6 million acres burned across the state in 2018.
"Communities were awarded funding based on their unmet infrastructure needs and have the flexibility to use the grants to support projects based on their priorities to rebuild in a safe, sustainable, and resilient way," Newsom's office said in a news release.
