Letter: Hello from Malibu's New High School Principal

With the cocoon of support that our community provides our children, together there is nothing we can't accomplish for their sake.

Dear Malibu High School Community,

Welcome back to the 2012 – 2013 school year!

Now entering my third week on the job as principal, I have been struck by the level of kindness and support that has been afforded me by the staff, faculty, students and parents. I am so incredibly gratified by the welcoming nature of this community.

Also, in such a short time, I stand in awe by the dedication and the care that the MHS community gives our school. Numerous teachers worked through the summer preparing and perfecting their lessons for this year’s students. Office staff and counselors spent countless hours this summer registering new students and preparing the organizational structures needed for another year. Our assistant principals worked double duty as they transitioned from one principal to the next. Parent volunteers spent enormous amounts of time in preparation for the “Get Your Stuff “ days (which were a wonderful success).

These examples of dedication should serve to remind us that with the cocoon of support that our community provides our children, together there is nothing we can’t accomplish for their sake.

For our children, I hope that we endow them with a deep respect for education and the intrinsic value of lifelong learning, I also hope we instill within them the idea that learning should be fun and that with an ability to think, analyze and problem solve comes a future with endless potential.

Wednesday, Aug. 22, is the first day of school. High school students will go to the New Gym to pick up their schedules before class begins at 7:50 a.m. Middle School students will pick up their schedules in the quad outside the Library before their classes begin at 8:00. Please anticipate increased traffic for the first day of school and plan accordingly.

To all of our students, families, faculty and staff, I wish you a happy and successful 2012-13 school year.
