No Swimming: Authorities Warn Of Increased Bacteria In Malibu

Authorities advised against swimming at two Malibu beaches due to increased bacteria levels.

MALIBU, CA — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday advised against swimming at multiple county beaches, including Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach and Topanga Canyon Beach.

Bacteria levels at five Los Angeles County beaches were found to be higher than acceptable county health standards on Monday, according to the department.

Other beaches included in the advisory were Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey, the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica and Pico-Kenter Storm Drain at Santa Monica Beach Tower 20. Visitors should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the water at these beaches.

The county has placed many bacteria advisories on Malibu beaches in recent months. The advisories at Mother's Beach and the Santa Monica Pier have been in place for weeks.
