PCH Reopens After Mudslides, Malibu Canyon Remains Closed

Crews are working to clear mudslides that have hampered travel in and around Malibu this week.

MALIBU, CA — A portion of Pacific Coast Highway that was shuttered Wednesday due to mudslides had reopened by Thursday morning, according to city officials.

Meantime, Malibu Canyon Road remains closed after a mudslide blocked the road.

On PCH, two southbound and one northbound lane are open between Latigo Canyon Road and Corral Canyon Road. That area of PCH was shut down Wednesday due to mudslides.

Caltrans crews are continuing their work to clear all PCH lanes and check the nearby slope for safety, city officials said.

Malibu Canyon Road continues to be closed and county Public Works crews are working to clear the area. The road was shut down in both directions near Piuma Road at around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say it may be several days before the road reopens.
