Man Arrested Following Car Chase

Howard Thorne, 46, led the California Highway Patrol on a chase that went from the 405 Freeway to Paradise Cove in Malibu.

A man whose last known address is in Redondo Beach was arrested Monday afternoon and booked on suspicion of evading authorities following a California Highway Patrol pursuit that went from the 405 Freeway south of the 10 into Malibu, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

He was being held at the station in lieu of $75,000 bail as of Monday night, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Inmate Information Center.

Lt. Jim Royal of Malibu/Lost Hills said the pursuit began after Howard Thorne, 46, failed to stop when his motorcycle was signaled to pull over for speeding by a CHP vehicle. Then began a multi-vehicle chase of Thorne (by the CHP, not the sheriff's department) that went from the 405, to the 10 and up Pacific Coast Highway into Malibu.

Thorne abandoned his motorcycle at , and was seen running on the beach east of the local pier, Royal said. The Los Angeles Police Department's air unit spotted Thorne.

Malibu/Lost Hills and the CHP set up a containment. Thorne was apprehended outside a home on Sea Lane Drive. Malibu Commissioner Mikke Pierson wrote in the comments section of Malibu Patch's that he saw Thorne enter the home. Royal said he had heard Thorne entered the home, but was unable to confirm this happened.

Nobody was at the Sea Lane Drive home, and it may have been abandoned, Royal said.
