Randall Returns to Planning Commission
Mayor Laura Zahn Rosenthal plans to appoint Carol Randall as a temporary replacement for Lisa Toledo until she finds a permanent commissioner after the election.

Carol Randall, a Malibu resident of nearly 50 years, will serve a second stint on the Planning Commission—briefly. Mayor Laura Zahn Rosenthal announced at the City Council meeting on Monday that Randall had agreed to fill the seat vacated by Lisa Toledo last month.
Rosenthal said this would be a temporary appointment, and she wanted to wait to make a permanent selection until after the April City Council election because "I think the Planning Commission is a very important commission, and I think it's not just about who I appoint, but the group as a whole."
There could be as many as three new people on the council after the election, and each council member gets to appoint a person to the commission.

Rosenthal will officially make the appointment at the next council meeting on Jan. 23.
Randall served on the commission from 2004 to 2008 as an appointee of then-Council member Jeff Jennings, who is now also a member of the planning panel.

"Carol was a long-standing member of the Planning Commission and did a great job," Rosenthal said. "And so I am very thankful she said, 'yes.' She'll be able to step just right on in."
Randall is also on the Public Safety Commission, having served on it since it was formed in the 1990s. She has been involved in Malibu politics for several decades, as was her husband Carl, who died in 2003.
