Red Flag Warning Issued for S.M. Mountains

Strong winds and low relative humidity combine for a potentially dangerous situation.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the mountains in Malibu as well as the rest of the Santa Monica Mountains range, other high-elevation areas in Los Angeles County and the Santa Clarita Valley. The warning period will begin at 10 p.m. and remain in effect until Friday at 6 p.m.

A Red Flag Warning means there is a high fire risk due to low relative humidity and strong winds. Northeast winds could reach as high as 35 mph, with gusts traveling at speeds up to 45 mph. The relative humidity level could drop to as low as 10 percent.
