The annual list ranks schools based on student performance on standardized tests, student participation in Advanced Placement (AP), how well schools educated black, Hispanic and poor students, and by how effectively they prepared graduates for college.
Part of the reason for the school's drop in the rankings may be because of a drop in some of the key data analyzed. Last year, according to the report, the AP exam participation rate at Malibu High School was 71 percent, while this year it is 61 percent. Last year, the school scored a 55 on the College Readiness Index, while this year it scored 50.4.
