Rosenthal Expected to be Named Mayor Next Week

The position as head of the city of Malibu is mostly ceremonial.

Unless something unusual happens, Laura Zahn Rosenthal will become the mayor of Malibu at the  meeting next week on Monday. The council is scheduled to "elect" a new mayor and mayor pro tem at the meeting, but this election should be a formality. The council rotates who gets to hold the positions, based on past council election results. Lou La Monte is expected to be named mayor pro tem.

Rosenthal, 56, of Malibu Park and La Monte, 70, of Big Rock were elected to the council in April 2010. They received the most and second-most votes, respectively, in the 10-person race.

La Monte will replace Rosenthal as mayor pro tem and Rosenthal will replace John Sibert as mayor.
