MALIBU, CA — Southern California Edison is planning to potentially cut power in parts of Malibu Wednesday and Thursday, the City of Malibu said.

As of Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., the potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) that could affect Malibu this week are as follows:

  • Cuthbert Circuit (approximately Latigo Cyn Rd to Bonsall Dr, and from PCH approximately one mile inland) — midnight on Wednesday, October 30, to noon on Thursday, October 31.
  • Merlin Circuit (approximately Latigo Cyn Rd to Malibu Lagoon, and about 2-4 miles inland) — midnight on Wednesday, October 30, to noon on Thursday, October 31.

"Individuals who are medically dependent on electricity service should consider proactively staying in another area until conditions change," the City of Malibu said. "Residents are encouraged to check on family members and neighbors who may need assistance."

If a power shutoff is implemented and hazardous conditions have passed, it could take one to three days to restore service, because Southern California Edison must first inspect all power lines in the affected circuit area to ensure they are safe to re-energize, the City said.

The City advised residents to monitor local news, including KNX AM-1070 and KBUU 99.1-FM on the radio.
