MALIBU, CA — The Secret Service pays more than $30,000 a month to live near Hunter Biden's Malibu home, ABC News reported.

Hunter Biden himself pays $20,000 a month to rent a 3,000-square-foot Malibu house.

It is standard operating procedure for agents to rent as close as possible to members of the first family, retired Secret Service agent Dan Mihalek told ABC News.

The agency also rents places near President Joe Biden's two Delaware properties, according to ABC News.

"This isn't new," Mihalek said. "The service has had to do this in past administrations, and unfortunately, the housing market right now has driven the prices up substantially."

Hunter Biden faces a federal tax probe that may result in charges for the controversial first son, The Associated Press reported. The investigation will sort through Hunter Biden's foreign payments and other finances, according to the AP.

The cost of Secret Service rent to protect Hunter Biden was not the first instance of high-priced Secret Service accommodation. Former President Donald Trump came under scrutiny for awarding his children and three additional officials six extra months of Secret Service protection for them after they left their official jobs, according to The Washington Post. It was a move that cost taxpayers an additional $1.7 million in government spending.

Reports also noted the high price of protecting Trump's infamous golf trips, which totaled more than $10,000, The Washington Post reported.

Hunter Biden started renting his Malibu pad in 2021, according to the New York Post. The four-bedroom house sits just above the Malibu coastline and boasts a pool and 180-degree ocean views.
